Women @ Apache.org

Danese Cooper, Jean T. Anderson

Studies have shown that throughout the open source movement, women are only participating at a rate of 2%. At Apache the rate is even lower, if we look at the number of women who have achieved membership. Why is this happening and is it a problem? Is there any action the ASF can take to bring the balance up? Danese Cooper and Jean T. Anderson proposed a special interest mail list, women@apache.org, to try to explore these questions which sparked debate from the ASF board right down to the IRC channels. This session will present informal research into the issue and invite discussion.
