What is Derby?
Derby is a relational database implemented completely in Java. It has a small footprint that allows it to be easily embedded into any Java application, disappearing from view and requiring no DBA administration. It also supports the more familiar client/server access model.
The best place to get started with Derby is to visit the
Derby home page. For questions about Derby, subscribe to the

Derby 10.4.1.3 was released April 24th, 2008, with many
new features and bugfixes. You can
download and start using 10.4.3.1 now! You can also read more about the release on the DerbyTenFourRelease wiki page.

Derby 10.4.1.3 was released 2008-04-24. The are currently no concrete plans for a new release, but based on historical evidence new releases usually appear within 6-9 month intervals.
