I am a software developer at the Space Telescope Science Institute currently working on the exposure time calculators for the Hubble Space Telescope.
I have used Derby + Hibernate in a small open source program that I wrote for a school and found that it worked very well.
At work, we used Derby + Hibernate in the Exposure Time Calculators for the Hubble Space Telescope. This system is now operational and appears to be working fine (though crunch time won't be until February/March of 2008).
If you are interested in using Hibernate but have questions, please feel free to contact me. I cannot guarantee that I have any answers though.
I am interested in PersonalInformationManagers.
