Some individuals do not like to use Wiki for discussions, proposals, or guideline development, and this is an important group of people in the ASF. This page is meant to make the case for using mailing lists to discuss topics.
Here are some reasons why mailing lists make more sense than a Wiki:
- The ASF has been using mailing lists for years, and most members of the community are used to discussing and debating on a mailing list. Most important decisions are made using a mailing list as a discussion format.
- When an individual wishes to develop and refine a complex argument, he/she wants to do that with confidence that some random individual is not going to come around and modify that argument.
- If the discussion involves sensitive discussions about security, it needs to happen on a non-public mailing list.
