About Jini Standards
Standards are created and agreed upon by the Jini Community as a means to share common strategies to achieve particular goals. It does not mean that anyone -- not even authors of another proposal or standard -- is required to use the mechanism to achieve those goals. Standards are intended for use by developers as guidelines when developing software using Jini technology.
The Making of a Standard
Any standard starts as an idea of a single person or a group of persons and are developed into a proposed standard. Interested parties may collaborate on the ideas and supporting documentation.
When the group decides the standard has been well-developed, the proposed standard can either be presented to the Jini Community for approval as a draft standard. Alternatively, it can be presented to the community for ratification to a full standard.
