• On Feb 2010 some one pointed out that "Please note at the time of writing rivet would not compile on Ubuntu 9.10 or 10.04 so we have been forced to use 8.04, this may change as time goes on but for a stable and reliable system please use 8.04 - Feb 2010"

This is all done on a Ubuntu 8.04 LTS server, but these instructions can be translated across to other distributions.
