Track chairs are responsible for planning the content of their track. They have a shared responsibility, with the event chair, to promote their track to their community, via any promotion channels available, especially any mailing lists and social media channels that are specific to the content community.

If you're a track chair, you should:

  • Join the relevant mailing list(s), including planners@apachecon.com - send email to planners-subscribe@apachecon.com to subscribe.
  • Ensure you have access to whatever call for presentations tool is in use for the event
  • Promote the call for presentation directly to your project/topic community, mailing list(s), project website(s), meetup groups, etc.
  • Personally reach out to people that you want to have speaking in your track and request content. Don't assume that they will just show up

For most Apache events, the track chair is delegated full responsibility for the content of their track. While you may (and probably should) use the official CFP process to solicit tracks, you should give thought to what story you want to tell in your track, and hand-pick the talks that tell this story. For example, you could

  • Lead the attendee through a journey from beginner to journeyman to expert
  • Show a user how to become a contributor
  • No labels
