    Hi Sharan,

Being a novice at accounting, inclusive of OFBiz, I'm battling my way through a "clean" configuration of OFBiz. (For a typical South African setup)

Currently I cannot really distinguise the difference between the

1.) Gl Account Type Id and

    2.) Gl Account Class Id

From reading up, I believe the Gl Account Class Id relates to the 5 financial categories (Income - Expense - Proprietory Accounts, Asset, Liabilities), required to generate the Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Statements. However, the selection of 33 options doesn't clear things up for me....

In addition, what is the "purpose" of the Gl Account Type Id's then? (Being a selection of 57 options) To what reports would these options be applicable?

Your transparency in this regard would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    1. Hi Wicus

I'm sorry to say that I'm an OFBiz novice too so dont have any answers to your queries yet. A few weeks ago I volunteered on the mailing list to have a go at putting together some user documentation - so this is really a work in progress. I'm really interested in understanding the accounting module so decided to start on it first.

If I find out anything then I'll document it - but in the meantime I'd suggest that you try posting your query on the mailing lists and hopefully someone with more knowledge of the reasons behind the accounting data model might be able to answer your question.

      Thanks

      Sharan

  2. Hi Sharan,

Note also that "Time periods / Fiscal or Accounting periods" is done in webtools
