What's Happening At ApacheCon US 2009?

The following events are currently planned. There may be some changes; however, for the most part, we consider these events fixed.

  • Two days of Training courses, featuring: Lucene, HTTP, Tomcat, Hadoop, Solr, Wicket, Maven, CXF, ActiveMQ & Camel, Jetspeed, Portlets, OSGi, Security, Kato, Media & Analyst Training, CouchDB, REST, ServiceMix, and Felix
  • Three days of multi-track content, featuring: Hadoop, OFBiz, Lucene, HTTP, Tuscany/Synapse, Tomcat, Community & Business, Geronimo, Jackrabbit, Sling, POI, Lenya, Wicket, Cocoon, Roller, and more.
  • A two-day BarCamp and Hackathon (see below)
  • An evening Apache "birthday bash" (see below)
  • Open community MeetUps each evening (see below)

Big Feather Birthday Bash

Plan to attend a huge party on Wednesday night, celebrating 10 years of the ASF. There will be cake! And beer! And food! And music!

BarCamp Apache

The Apache Hackathon will be open to all and part of the BarCamp on Monday and Tuesday. Those that just want to hack are welcome and will be given space. The BarCamp will extend into the evening to allow those with day jobs to be able to participate. We expect there will be an approximate two-hour break between the day and evening sessions.

Communities are encouraged to participate in the BarCamp, but be aware that this is a completely open un-conference. If a project community wants more dedicated time, then please either plan a MeetUp, a Get Together or a conference community event.

MeetUps

Continuing the wildly successful tradition of MeetUps from ApacheCon Europe, we will open each night of the conference for FREE community Get Togethers and MeetUps. These will be focused on a specific community / technology and will be self-organized.

In addition, we're hoping to have space for BoFs (Birds-of-a-Feather).

What about the CFPs

We still have them! The concom team received many excellent proposals. These have been reviewed and organized into potential conference tracks. However, we're holding these in reserve. Once we review the community events, we'll go back and fill in any remaining time with these sessions. If a PMC would like to see what's already been submitted, contact your concom representative.

Pricing and Logistics

We plan to keep the main registration fee as low as possible. Pricing for the event will be announced soon. Our hope is to accommodate the following:

  • FREE events, including a two-day BarCamp and Hackathon and three evenings of MeetUps
  • Training courses will continue to have a per-course fee
  • Day-time content on Wed-Fri will require a registration fee

Featured Events

Based on the great success of previous events like the “OFBiz User Symposium” and “Hadoop Camp”, we plan to run project/technology-specific programming.

You can use this, or your own wiki to put together a proposal. We encourage you to reach out to your user community for ideas and participation. To get started, create or link to a new page below:
