ApacheCon MUST have a hackathon space. Apache Roadshows SHOULD have a hackathon space.

A hackathon space is a room with wifi and power strips. It does NOT need to have projection or mics. It SHOULD be accessible throughout the entire duration of the event. The purpose of this space is collaboration on Apache projects, whether those are code projects or non-code things like ComDev, D&I, and so on.

The hackathon space SHOULD, if possible, be centrally located so that it is easily discoverable.

The hackathon SHOULD be promoted to projects ahead of the event, with an encouragement that they plan what they'll be working on, and publicize that to their user/developer communities.

The job of the hackathon coordinator is to work with projects to develop their hackathon plan:

  • Create a central place (preferably at /hackathon on the event website) to list project plans
  • Contact projects who will be represented at the event (work with the track chairs) and ask them to draw up a list of tasks
    • Tasks can be bugs,
    • feature
    • future planning
    • documentation
    • community growth discussion
  • If a project is willing, also keep signup lists of who will be attending, and what they will be working on
  • Work with the promotion team and track chairs to publicize these plans
  • Check in during the event to see what is getting accomplished
  • Publicize these stories after the event
  • No labels
